Thanksgiving 2017

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving full of family, food, and fun. Well just look at Mister Turkey. He has a beautiful golden brown skin as a result of the peanut oil, and my wonderful southern son-in-law who stood over the deep fryer. Sticking with our family tradition, all of the guys were out back supervising. We had an array of simple sides including corn, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, and a string bean casserole. My …

Thanksgiving Eve

Well my Georgia Peaches got in late last night. We started our day with coffee because it is going to be a long one. My oldest daughter makes a fantastic pumpkin pie. And my youngest daughter makes a beautiful apple pie. The house smells wonderful with all the great aromas drifting through the house. I love the scent of sautéed celery and onions. Later this evening, the grandkids will decorate the gingerbread cookies made from …

Gather

GATHER.  What this means to me is family getting together. I am so excited that in one week, my southern belles are coming up from down south to spend the holiday with us as they do every year.  Every year it excites me to no end.  It is so much fun to see my daughters in the kitchen with their aprons on as they prepare the fabulous feast.  I enjoy the fact that I get …

Large Turkey on Display

This large ceramic turkey is my favorite. He brings back so many memories from my childhood spent in my father’s grocery store. I passed many years there from the time I was in a baby carriage until I was a teen. Every Thanksgiving, we put a huge turkey in the window to let people know that we had fresh turkeys for sale. I found this embossed gold candle at Pottery Barn this year. Luckily, I …

Dining Room Buffet Decked Out for Thanksgiving

I love to deck out my dining room buffet for the holidays; Thanksgiving is no exception. I brought out my beautiful William Sonoma Thanksgiving turkey platter and matching dishes. I added some candles to a lovely paper leaf swag. I tied a brown bow, tossed in extra bleached pine cones, and scattered gold pears to complete the look. By setting in the small wheat bundle along with some plain gold and white napkins and the …

Sunroom Awash with the Glow of Autumn

My sunroom is the perfect spot to spend a chilly autumn day curled up on the sofa with a book or magazine. When the fireplace is aglow, it echoes the golden hues of autumn on the trees that peek through the curtains. Four neutral-toned napkins serve as the base for my mantel display of white. I brought out the owls and white pumpkins. I added a pitcher with some cattails and real grass. The bow …

Turkey Platter Centerpiece

In place of a coffee table, I have a large ottoman in my living room. I like to use a platter or serving tray of some sort in order to offer some stability for things placed on top of it. For Thanksgiving, I’ve opted for this large silver turkey platter from Lenox. It is a quite heavy piece. First, I placed the platter at an angle to add a touch of interest. Next, I added …

Turkeys Perched on the Fireplace Mantel

As I mentioned yesterday, I have a huge collection of turkeys that I like to use in my fall decor. I tweaked my living room fireplace mantel only slightly like I did for Halloween. It keeps things simple by changing out a few details to match the holiday or season. I switched the large mercury pumpkin for a large mercury gourd. For some reason, I associate gourds with Thanksgiving. Next, I replaced the small pumpkin …

A Rafter of Turkeys

Now that Halloween is over it is time for my turkeys to make an appearance.  As you can see, I have a lot of turkeys in my collection.  These are only just a few of them.  The easiest way for me to find a home for them is to add them to my fall decor.   At the end of the season, when everything goes on sale, I’m on the lookout for a new little gobbler …
