Some women get diamonds; I get pieces of wood. While that may sound sad, I love it. My husband brings it home, and asks if I can use it. I grab it and examine it before walking around the house seeing where I can put it to use. This piece here made it’s way into the sunroom.
First, I applied two thick coats of polyurethane to seal it. This ensures that I’ll be able to use the wood for other things in the future. My husband wanted to sand the edges, but I preferred the unfinished look. For now, I’m using them to add height to this lantern. I also like the way it finishes off the rustic feel I have going there.
Keep your eyes open. You never know when you may find an unexpected treasure. Look past what it is in it’s current state, and instead imagine what it could become with a little bit of work. Picture where it could fit into your home.
